Wimbledon 2021: Matteo Berrettini makes history by beating Federer in semi-finals

New Delhi. Matteo Berrettini provided a shining example of his strong serve and strong forehand, beating Hubert Hurkacz to enter the final of the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament (Wimbledon 2021) on Friday. Italy’s seventh seed Berrettini scored 22 aces and hit 60 winners. He defeated 14th-seeded Harkaz and who defeated Roger Federer 6-3, 6-0, 6-7(3), 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

Berettini became the first Italian player to reach the Wimbledon final. This is the first time in 45 years that an Italian player has reached the final of a Grand Slam tournament. Berettini will face the winner of the match between top seed Novak Djokovic and first-time semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov in Sunday’s final.

A very special day for Italy
Sunday in London has been special for Italy after Berretini reached the final. After the Wimbledon final, Italy will face England in the European Football Championship final at Wembley Stadium. Adriano Panetta was the last Italian player to reach a Grand Slam final before Berettini. He reached the final of the French Open in 1976.

The 25-year-old Berretini previously reached the semi-finals of the US Open in 2019 but failed to progress beyond that. He extended his winning streak to 11 matches on grass courts. He won the Queen’s Club title last month.

Harkaz also gave a career best performance
Poland’s Harkaz has never made it past the third round of a Grand Slam but has beaten eight-time champion Federer and number two Daniil Medvedev en route to the semi-finals at Wimbledon. But Berettini didn’t give him much of a chance. Harkaj once led 3-2 in the first set but Berettini broke her serve back. After that, the Italian player had no problem winning the first two sets.

Also present to cheer for Berettini was her friend Ajla Tujanovic, who reached the quarterfinals of the women’s singles. Four times in the third set, Berrettini was two points behind to win, but each time Harkas came back. The set extended to a tie-breaker with Harkaz leading 4-0 from the start. Harkaz won the set but Berretini soon moved to a set of his own. Her match point was 5–3 in the fourth set, which Harkaz saved. Berettini, however, won a second match point five minutes later
