Wimbledon 2021: Defending champion Simona Halep out with injury, Osaka-Nadal already out

London. Defending champion Simona Halep decided to withdraw from Wimbledon on Friday due to a left calf injury. Romania’s Simona Halep is ranked third in the world, but she would have been seeded second at Wimbledon as second-ranked Naomi Osaka had already withdrawn from the tournament.

Simona Halep suffered this injury during the Italian Open in May. His goal was to bounce back from the French Open. The 29-year-old won the Rolls-Garros (French Open) in 2018. Wimbledon was not held last year due to the corona virus. Halep defeated Serena Williams 6–2, 6–2 in the 2019 final.

Simona Halep is a three-time French Open finalist. She won her first major singles title by defeating Sloane Stephens in the 2018 final in Paris. Wimbledon starts next Monday, with Simona but Halep announcing her withdrawal from the tournament before the draw at the All England Club.

Tennis lovers know that Spain’s legendary player Rafael Nadal and Japan’s Naomi Osaka are not going to participate in Wimbledon in advance due to various reasons. Simona Halep not playing in such a situation is a big shock for this tournament.
