Veteran Indian tennis players Sania Mirza and her partner Shuai Zhang defeated Makoto Nonomiya and Eri Hozumi in straight sets to enter the final of the Ostrava Open 2021 on Saturday. This is Sania’s second final of the season and she has a chance to win her first title of the year.
The second seeded Indian-Chinese pair defeated the Japanese pair 6-2, 7-5 in an hour and 21 minutes of play. The 34-year-old Sania now has a chance to win his first title in the 2021 season. She was runner-up at the WTA 250 Cleveland event last month with Christina Machal.
Sania-Zhang duo easily won the first set 6-2. After that, the pairing of Makoto and Hozumi returned in the second set. However, the Indian-Chinese pair won the second set 7-5. In the women’s singles, Maria Sakkari of Greece advanced to the final after defeating Siatec of Poland 6-4, 7-5.
