Pune. Police in Pune, Maharashtra, said on Monday that a 14-year-old girl had been abducted from the Pune railway station area. She was later raped in many parts of the city. Eight people, including six autorickshaw drivers and two railway employees, were arrested during the investigation.
Wanwari police senior inspector Deepak Lagad said a complaint of disappearance had been lodged at the police station earlier. Lagad said, “We found the girl on Sunday during the investigation of the allegations. The girl informed the police that she was abducted and raped.”
The girl was said to have left her home on August 31 and arrived at the Pune railway station where she was boarding a train to meet her friend. Then the accused autorickshaw drivers saw the girl and realized that she was alone. He was told that the train he was looking for would be found the next day. According to the girl, the autorickshaw drivers told her to go with them, promising to arrange her overnight stay.

Lagad, quoting the FIR, said the girl was later raped by autorickshaw drivers at various places in the city. “Cases have been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Pokso Act,” the officer said. Eight accused, including an autorickshaw driver and two fourth-class railway employees, have been arrested. Further investigation is underway.
According to a report in the English newspaper Indian Express, Uday Singh Pawar, divisional safety commissioner of the Pune division of the railways, declined to comment on the matter. “The matter is with the local police and we have no information about it,” he said.
