Jamsetji Tata (JRD Tata) laid the foundation of this hotel. What really happened was that once during the British rule he was not allowed to enter the biggest hotel there. They were told that it was confined to the ‘whites’, meaning that only the British could enter. Jamsetji Tata considered it an insult to all Indians and then decided that he would build a hotel where not only Indians but also foreigners could stay without any restrictions. It was after this that he laid the foundation of the luxurious Hotel Taj and thus came into existence the first super-luxury hotel in India. The Taj is currently the center of attraction around the world.
