    School Reopen: Since when are schools opening in which state, see the details of 10 states


    New Delhi. School Reopen: With the number of Covid-19 cases declining, all states are planning to gradually reopen schools and colleges. Educational institutions in the country have been closed for a long time. However, many states like Punjab have already reopened schools. Others, on the other hand, are considering starting offline classes by mid-August. The state-wise list of what decisions have been taken regarding the opening of schools is given below.

    School Reopen: Maharashtra
    Maharashtra has announced the reopening of classes in schools in both rural and urban areas from August 17. Schools across the state have been closed since March last year. Till now online classes were being conducted. Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said, “Offline classes will start in rural areas for students of classes 5 to 8, while in cities for students of classes 8 to 12.” However, on-campus classes will be allowed only in areas where Covid-19 infections are consistently low, the minister said.

    School Reopen: Meghalaya
    Education Minister Lakhmen Rimbui said that Meghalaya is considering reopening educational institutions from mid-August. Rimbui said there is a need to resume classroom teaching as soon as possible, especially in higher education institutions.

    School Reopen: Delhi
    Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in a meeting with the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has decided to constitute a committee of experts to evaluate the matter of reopening of schools in the national capital. According to officials present in the meeting, a committee of experts will be constituted with officials of education and health departments to prepare a detailed plan along with standard operating procedures (SOPs) for reopening of schools and colleges. Preparation of schools to comply with SOPs, vaccination of teachers and other staff, and concerns of parents and students will be assessed before taking a decision.

    School Reopen: Karnataka
    The Karnataka government has decided to resume offline classes for class 9 and 10 and pre-university college students (class 11 and 12) from August 23. The decision was taken at a high level committee meeting organized by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. He said, “We have decided to reopen the schools in two phases. In the first phase, the (offline) classes for students in class 9, 10 and PU will start from August 23. The students will be classified into two batches with classes on alternate days.

    School Reopen: Uttar Pradesh
    The Uttar Pradesh state government had announced the reopening of schools for intermediate students with 50 percent capacity from August 16, 2021. Apart from this, instructions have also been issued to start classes in higher educational institutions from September 1.

    School Reopen: Odisha
    Schools were reopened in Odisha for class 10 and 12 students on July 26 after a gap of more than three months. Department officials said that the state government is planning to reopen the schools of class IX and 11 from August 16 and September 15, respectively.

    School Reopen: Andhra Pradesh
    Andhra Pradesh will reopen schools from August 16 and the government plans to start six types of schools under the National Policy on Education (NEP 2020). Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the officials to complete the process of improvement of schools as per the NEP system by August 16.

    School Reopen: Tamil Nadu
    The Tamil Nadu state government has announced the reopening of schools with 50 per cent capacity for class 9-12 students from September 1, following standard operating procedures. The School Education Department has been directed to make necessary arrangements. Earlier this week, teachers in government and government-aided schools returned to work.

    School Reopen: West Bengal
    West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said her government is looking at options to reopen schools and colleges on alternate days after the Durga Puja holiday in November. Educational institutions in the state have been closed since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March last year.

    School Reopen: Jammu and Kashmir
    All schools and higher educational institutions including coaching centers will remain closed for offline studies till further orders. However, educational institutions are allowed to demand the presence of vaccinated staff/students for administrative purposes and Independence Day celebrations. For which the rules of Kovid will have to be strictly followed.
