    Petrol-diesel cut by Rs 5 in Assam ahead of elections, tax on liquor also reduced


    Guwahati. Petrol and diesel in Assam now reduced by Rs.5. On the other hand, the tax on liquor has also been reduced by 25 percent. The new rates will be applicable from tonight. The Assam state government has informed this information on Friday. The decision to make petrol-diesel and liquor cheaper comes almost a month before Assam assembly elections. Especially at a time when fuel prices are rising rapidly across the country. Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswas announced this in the Assembly.

    News agency PTI reported in a report that when the Covid-19 crisis was at its peak, additional cess was imposed on petrol, diesel and liquor. Since, now the number of corona infected patients has been taken out. The cabinet gave its nod this morning to the proposal to remove this additional cess…so now petrol and diesel are getting cheaper by Rs 5 per liter in the state. This will provide relief to millions of consumers in the state.

    The vote-on-account budget was presented in Assam today, in which the government announced an outlay of around Rs 60,784.03 crore. This will be for the first 6 months of the next financial year.

    Petrol-Diesel is cheaper in Assam amid rising crude oil prices
    We inform you that petrol and diesel prices have increased only after January 2021. However, no changes were made for about a month before this. Crude oil prices have increased in the global market, which has affected the domestic market as well. In various parts of the world, fuel costs are increasing due to Covid-19 vaccinations.

    Elections in Assam in March-April
    Notably, the Assam Legislative Assembly will be held between March-April. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, will contest the election to retain his seat. Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, many BJP leaders are also visiting the state ahead of the elections.
