New Delhi. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan today inaugurated various new infrastructural facilities at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal. New facilities commissioned at RIMS, Imphal include a new MRI block with three Tesla MRI machines, PG (100 capacity) women’s hostel in new block, neuro block and college of nursing.
On this occasion, Member of Parliament of Inner Manipur Lok Sabha RK Ranjan Singh, Maharaja Sanjaoba, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and Professor A Shanta Singh, Director, RIMS and other dignitaries were present.
In his address at the Jubilee Hall of RIMS, Dr. Harsh Vardhan spoke about the need to complete infrastructure projects despite difficulties in procuring equipment, especially in importing Tesla MRI machines, during the difficult times of Covid-19. Appreciated the officials
The timely completion of the project demonstrates the commitment of the RIMS administration. He worked tirelessly to provide the best healthcare to the people of the region.
The Union Minister has assured that his ministry will provide all possible support to make Reims the best healthcare center not only in the Northeast but also in the country. He also said that the Ministry of Health is giving priority to the development of health facilities in the region. The Union Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to the overall development of the region.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that a major increase in the Union budget for health services, sanitation and drinking water services would strengthen the health system in the coming years and help achieve the goal of good health for the people. He also said that the Center has decided to set up 75 new medical colleges in remote districts where people are facing problems for many years and are deprived of health education and other facilities.
Establishment of Chuda-Chandpur Medical College in Manipur and Mon Medical College in Nagaland are part of the central government initiative. The Union Minister laid the foundation stone of Mons Medical College on Saturday. The Union Minister said that the Prime Minister himself is monitoring the progress of the development plan of the region.
Earlier, Lok Sabha member RK Ranjan said that the inclusion of nuclear medicine department in RIMS will not only provide cancer treatment facilities in the state and other northeastern states but also save a lot on treatment costs of patients. Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanjaoba said that RIMS has the potential to become a major medical institution not only for North East India but for the entire South East Asia.
