    North East India: Dr Harsh Vardhan visits under-construction medical college in Kohima, says work to be completed by mid-2022


    New Delhi. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan today visited the under-construction Kohima Medical College in Kohima.

    While interacting with reporters during the visit, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that the Central Government is committed to improving health services across the country and the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leaving no stone unturned in this direction. He said that this year’s general budget has given substantial increases in health, sanitation and drinking water, paving the way for better health of the people.

    Dr. Harsh Vardhan expressed happiness over the progress of the construction of the medical college and said that the state government has set a target to complete the medical college by mid-2022. He said that the central government will work for the development of Nagaland. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to expand and improve the existing infrastructure in the Northeast region.

    Dr. Harsh Vardhan informed that one of the ambitious districts in the region, Som, was selected for setting up a medical college, as the region lacked facilities after independence. He said, we want people to get health facilities and health education facilities. After the completion of the construction of the medical college, he again expressed his desire to go to Nagaland. He said he would contact the state government to ensure construction of these medical colleges on time.

    While returning from the Kohima Medical College site, Dr. Harsh Vardhan visited the Kohima War Cemetery, where he paid floral tributes to the martyrs of World War II. Earlier in the day, the Union Minister was welcomed in a function organized in Kohima village.

    Dressed in traditional Naga attire, Dr. Harsh Vardhan expressed his gratitude to the people of Nagaland for hosting. The Union Minister also visited Nagaland Civil Secretariat and Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Center Shikha Jhao. After a three-day visit to Nagaland, he left for Imphal.
