    NIA offices in Srinagar, raids on NGOs, cases of aiding terrorists


    Srinagar. Taking a major step, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday raided several areas in Srinagar, including the Greater Kashmir newspaper and human rights activist Khurram Parvez. The NIA has taken this action due to suspicious fund activities. Apart from this, the office of Atharout NGO was also searched.

    There are doubts about the financial activities of NGOs
    NIA has registered a new case to probe the movement of money inside NGOs. Under this, NIA will trace the source of money, expenditure. According to officials, these NGOs have long been accused of hawala rackets, illegal fundraising and terrorist financing.

    At least three NGOs were raided by the NIA for alleged financing of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, he said. These NGOs were established in 2000. According to the NIA, these NGOs were receiving funds from unknown donors, which were being used to finance terrorism.

    Action has already been taken
    In 2019, the NIA questioned Fayaz Kalu, editor-in-chief of the Greater Kashmir newspaper, over some articles. These articles were published in newspapers after Burhan Wani’s death. Apart from this, in 2016, Khurram Parvez was arrested from his house in Srinagar. However, many controversies were created at this time. It has been alleged that Parvez was taken into custody without any arrest warrant.
