Head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis have resigned just two hours after the announcement of the squad for this year’s Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed the matter. Misbah and Walker were given this responsibility by PCB 2019 in September 2019 and their contract was 1 year left. Meanwhile, the PCB has appointed former off-spinners Saqlain Mushtaq and Abdul Razzaq as coaches on a temporary basis. Next week, Pakistan will have to welcome the New Zealand team for ODIs, ODIs and 5 Twenty20 series.
For this series, the New Zealand team will arrive in Pakistan on 11 September. At the same time, the host Pakistan team will gather in Islamabad in September. Currently, the PCB has appointed a temporary coach for the series. A separate coaching team will be selected for the 2021 T20 World Cup soon.
Following the decision, Misbah-ul-Haq said that during the quarantine in the recent series against the West Indies, I had assessed my 2-month position with the Pakistan team and the schedule of international cricket. Thinking that I had to live far away from my family and that too in a bio-bubble, I decided to step down as the head coach of the Pakistan team.
