New Delhi. Covid vaccine is growing rapidly in the country. So far, 16 percent of the country’s adult population has been fully vaccinated, although even fewer vaccinations can be fatal among people over the age of 60. Amid fears of a third wave, vaccination statistics at this age in many states are becoming a cause for concern. Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal have the highest number of people over 60 years of age. According to the ORF Covid vaccine tracker, the number of people over the age of 60 vaccinated per 1000 population is very low. ORF has analyzed the Covid Ticker data up to 2 August.
In the country, 947.13 out of one thousand people aged 60 years and above have been vaccinated. At the same time, the number is 523.05 in Tamil Nadu, 651.12 in Uttar Pradesh and 853.48 in West Bengal. The number of people of this age in these three states is more than one crore. The number of people over the age of 60 in Maharashtra is 1.45 crore, but 951.12 doses have been given out of one thousand such people. Which is slightly higher than the national average.

States like Tamil Nadu and Punjab have a higher number of such senior citizens, so if the average rate of vaccination does not increase, the next wave of covid could be challenging for these states.
According to the ORF, as of August 27, 61.6 percent of the population aged 60 or over have received at least one dose. At the same time, 31.4 percent of people have been fully vaccinated.
Smaller states do better
Small states and union territories like Sikkim, Mizoram, Lakshadweep, Chandigarh and Andaman-Nicobar have a relatively high number of people per 60 years of age who are vaccinated.

Complete vaccination is very important for the elderly because other diseases are also more common in people of this age. Due to which such people become very vulnerable to infection.
Although vaccines do not fully protect against viral infections, it has been found that after both doses of the vaccine, the severity of the infection and the resulting risk of death are reduced.
