Copenhagen: Foreign Minister S Jayashankar met with Danish Prime Minister Matteo Friedrichsen here on Sunday to discuss issues related to the global role of the Indo-Pacific, Afghanistan and the European Union. Jayashankar arrived in Denmark on the last leg of his three-nation European tour – Slovenia, Croatia and Denmark – to strengthen bilateral ties and strengthen India’s cooperation with the European Union (EU). He also sent greetings to Fredericksen from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Jaishankar tweeted, “Thanks to the Prime Minister of Denmark, Matt Fredericksen, for welcoming me today. His leadership in advancing our green strategic partnership is commendable. Greetings and best wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
The foreign minister said he had discussed with Prime Minister Frederickson the global role of the Indo-Pacific region, Afghanistan and the EU. “This is Jaishankar’s first visit to Denmark and the first visit by an Indian foreign minister to the country in 20 years,” a statement from the foreign ministry said in New Delhi.
Jayashankar interacts online with members of the Indian community here and thanks them for creating a positive image of India. He tweeted, “Delighted to meet the Indian community in Denmark digitally. Appreciate the image he has created for India. I am confident that they will continue to be an effective bridge between our countries. Our deep ties also reflect his contribution.”
On Saturday, Jayashankar co-chaired the fourth round of the Indo-Denmark Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) with his Danish counterpart Jepe Kafode. In a statement issued after the JCM meeting, the Foreign Minister said that the unique issue between Denmark and India is that Denmark is the only country that has a green strategic partnership with India.
