Calcutta. The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has summoned opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari in the state assembly in connection with the death of one of his bodyguards. A senior official gave this information on Sunday. He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Nandigram has been asked to appear before the investigating officers at the CID headquarters at Bhabani Bhavan here on Monday.
Shubhbrata Chakraborty, the bodyguard of the officer, allegedly shot himself with his service revolver in 2011. The CID formed a team to investigate the matter.
Chakraborty’s wife lodged a complaint with Kantai police station and demanded an inquiry into her husband’s death.

In this case, the CID has so far interrogated more than 15 people, including 11 policemen. Earlier, members of the investigation team visited the officer’s residence ‘Shanti Kunj’ in East Midnapore district. Chakraborty, a state armed policeman, has been under the protection of officers since he became a Trinamool Congress MP. When the officer became a minister in the state government in 2015, Chakraborty was in his security team.
West Bengal Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari was the Transport Minister of Chief Minister Banerjee till November 2020. He then joined the BJP. He defeated Mata Banerjee from Nandigram constituency in the state assembly elections held a few months ago. The TMC is currently challenging the victory in court. In 2014, the officer was questioned by the CBI for his alleged role in the Saradha Group financial scandal. A secretly recorded video shows him accepting money transactions. The matter is currently under investigation.
