How sensitive the MLAs of Uttarakhand are to the development of their constituencies can be gauged from the spending of their MLA funds. Most MLAs are unable to spend their MLA funds on time, that’s why many projects are unbalanced.

Dehradun district has 10 assembly constituencies. Out of these 10, 9 are BJP MLAs and one is from Congress. But, many MLAs have not been able to spend their ex-MLA funds so far. The special thing is that this financial year has ended. The most lax among them is Uttarakhand government cabinet minister Premchand Agarwal, MLA from Rishikesh, who has managed to spend only Rs 1 crore 30 lakh of his MLA fund. They still could not spend 2 crore 45 lakhs.

Congress MLA from Chakrata Pritam Singh is second in this list. He did not use even 50% of his MLA funds. Doivala MLA Braj Bhushan Gairola and Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma Kau are top spenders of MLA funds in Dehradun district.

Say each MLA of Uttarakhand gets Rs 3 crore 75 lakhs per year as MLA fund, through which MLAs carry out various developmental works in their constituencies. Apart from this, there are variations in other development works approved by the government. Dehradun district has a total of 10 MLAs. Accordingly, all MLAs were sanctioned ₹ 37 crore 50 lakh.

So far ₹ 29 crore 85 lakh has been sanctioned as MLA fund to MLAs, while ₹ 7 crore 64 lakh fund is still remaining. Against this, 847 schemes have been approved by all legislators and out of these 218 schemes have been completed. There are 629 projects pending.

The government is busy preparing the budget for the new fiscal year 23-24. There will be new plans for the new year, new development agenda, but our honorable legislators could not spend their funds for 2022-23, while these legislators are sitting inside the assembly crying for development. When this honorable MLA does not spend his funds on time, how will the state develop?
