    ‘Football Delhi’ to launch ’37 Plus League’ on Delhi Football Day


    New Delhi. Football Delhi has decided to launch a ’37 plus league’ with players who have retired from the game on the occasion of Delhi Football Day, which is celebrated on August 3 as Indian captain Sunil Chhetri’s birthday. It has been named ’37 Plus League’ to commemorate the 37th birthday of Chhetri, a charismatic Indian football player based in Delhi.

    This league will have eight to 10 teams and its matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday. The league will run for eight to 10 weeks. The decision was taken at the Delhi Football Executive Committee meeting on Sunday.

    Football Delhi President Shaji Prabhakaran said, “The 37 Plus League is another initiative of ‘Football Delhi’ to actively promote football in Delhi. With the launch of this league, retired players of Delhi will get an opportunity to come together and express their love, passion, experience for the game. Along with this, they will also get a platform to be active.

    He said, “It is an honor and a privilege for us to celebrate Captain Sunil Chhetri’s birthday on August 3 and ‘Football Delhi’ day to celebrate his achievements.” He also decided to start the qualification competition from July 20 to nominate two teams. (Second Tier) from Delhi in the tournament.
