Copa America: Argentina will face Brazil in the final after defeating Colombia

Brasilia (Brazil). Lionel Messi’s Argentina and Neymar’s Brazil will meet in the final of the Copa America football tournament to be held at the historic Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday. Argentina advanced to the final after beating Colombia 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out in Tuesday’s semi-final. The hero of the match was Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who saved three penalties. The score was tied 1-1 after regular time at Brasilia’s Mane Garrincha Stadium. Lautero Martinez put Argentina ahead in the seventh minute, but Luis Diaz (61st minute) leveled the score at 1-1 in the second half.

After the match, Lionel Messi said, ‘Amy (Emiliano) is amazing. We had faith in him. Our target was to play all the matches and now we will try to win the final. Argentina beat Colombia 6-5 in the penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw in the semi-finals at that time.

Brazil reached the final after defeating Peru 1-0 on Monday. Brazil have never lost a Copa America final at home and have won five out of six matches in the current tournament. Martinez stopped the shots of Sanchez, Yerry Mina and Edwin Cardona in the shootout.

Rodrigo de Paul failed to score for Argentina but Messi, Leandro Peredez and Lautero Martinez secured the win for their side. Cuadredo and Miguel Borja scored the only goals for Colombia.

“It was a matter of luck, luck was with me today,” Martinez said after the match. Brazil team is great, strong competitor. But we have a great coach, the best players in the world and we will try to win.” Colombia will face Peru on Friday in a third-place playoff.
