AFC has rescheduled the Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers to be held in India

Kuala Lumpur. The Executive Committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has decided to reschedule the qualifying tournament for the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup to be held in India in view of the health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main tournament will be held in India from January 20 to February 6, 2022, while its qualifiers are scheduled to be played from September 13 to 25.

According to a release from the AFC, “The AFC Executive Committee has decided to adopt more flexibility in finalizing the dates of the qualifiers as part of preparations for the Women’s Asian Cup India 2022.”

“We have taken into account the availability of hosts, preparations related to the travel of teams, the challenges posed by isolation and the health measures implemented by many countries,” the steering committee said.

The AFC Executive Committee also approved the recommendation of the Women’s Football Committee to cancel next year’s U-17 Women’s Asian Cup (Indonesia) and U-20 Women’s Asian Cup (Uzbekistan). It was also decided that the same host (Indonesia and Uzbekistan) will host the next season of both these competitions in 2024.
