House of the Dragon Ep 1 Review: We last saw the mighty Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) die at the hands of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’. This last season came 3 years ago. While fans are disappointed with the way the popular show ended, HBO has assured them that they will bring back ‘Game of Thrones’ with ‘House of the Dragon’. Its prequel has arrived after a long time. ‘House of the Dragon’ aired on Sunday. In India it will stream on Monday.
‘House of the Dragon’ is a spin-off and is set in Westeros about 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’. ‘House of the Dragon’ chooses successor to King Jahris Targaryen. Shown is the conflict between his only daughter, Princess Raines Targaryen (Eve Best) and her cousin, King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine). King Viserys convenes the Great Council of Hrenhall to help decide on the next heir to the Iron Throne.
Due to patriarchal times, King Viserys I Targaryen is designated as heir to the throne, while Princess Rhaenys is addressed as Queen. After this there is a time jump in the episode. King Viserys sits on the throne and thinks about choosing his successor. He has one daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. He is a dragon rider. King Viserys hopes his pregnant wife will give birth to a son.
Until she gives birth to a son, the future of Westeros rests in the hands of her arrogant younger brother, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith). Obviously things don’t go in King Viserys’ favor. ‘House of the Dragon Dragon’ lives up to expectations. It has all the elements of the original series. This show is a treat for all the fans who have been watching it (Game of Thrones) for years.
Beautiful view and location
The first episode of ‘House of the Dragon’ is quite the opposite compared to the first episode of ‘Game of Thrones’. Towards the end of the hour-long episode, director Miguel Sapochnik masterfully nails this story out of ‘Game of Thrones’. It centers on two brutal scenes with Matt Smith, a brothel scene, a childbirth scene, betrayal, politics and many interesting scenes.
The VFX are excellent
The VFX are amazing. Especially when dragons come into focus. Fabian Wagner’s camera work is also eye-catching. Overall, ‘House of the Dragon’ brings back all the glory of ‘Game of Thrones’. It doesn’t take much to see. take a look
