    Film Review ‘#Home’: A father can’t even speak…

The situation in the world does not seem to be getting better anytime soon. Not only the body but also the mind has been broken due to the epidemic for some time. In such a situation, family relationships are also deeply affected. Spending more time together has on the one hand weakened relationships, on the other hand breathed new life into some relationships. Keeping in mind the nuanced view of relationships that are now rekindled, one should watch a film that captures the depth of family relationships and that too in a very simple way. Watching the Malayalam movie “#Home” released on Amazon Prime Video means watching your aging parents struggle with technology, your grandfather getting lost in nostalgia and adopting various ways to maintain a good image in today’s age. #Home is the most beautiful.

Cinema is a medium of storytelling. How human and how elegant the story can be depends on the writer and director. The dramatization of humanity has become too much in Hindi films. Writers have started writing stories where nothing but cheer happens for the main character. In such a situation regional cinema i.e. regional cinema remains the source of water in the desert and the biggest source of all this is from Malayalam cinema. ‘#Home’ is a Malayalam film written and directed by Roisin Thomas. This is his third film and his previous two films have won many awards. #Home is guaranteed to win national awards, and if marketed right can win international awards.

The story of this film is about the relationship between father and son. Dementia patient Apachan (Kainkari Dhankaraj) and his son Oliver Twist (Indrans) and Oliver’s two sons Anthony (Srinath Vasi) and Charles (Naslin) take a long journey to see their relationship deteriorate and rebuild. minutes) but none. Moments where you can take a cup of tea away from the screen.

While writing the characters for the film, Rozin probably squeezed many anecdotes from his life. One is to write down an event as it is and the other is to present the feelings behind the event in detail. Roseanne’s writing is amazing. There are some wonderful examples that have been used to create characters. Dada Apachan used to type Malayalam translations of English novels, so he loved his characters, so named the boys Oliver Twist and Peter Pan and the girls Mary Poppins. Throughout the film, he continues to speak English dialogues and walks into the house with a walker. The veil of mystery is eventually lifted to reveal that the dialogues were from the novel Oliver Twist, whom she loved and named her son Oliver Twist. This is a new way to see father-son love.

Oliver Twist is a very straightforward and simple person. He wishes he had a smart phone too. He could talk to his elder son on video call. Can use apps like Facebook, WhatsApp (which he calls WhatsApp), Instagram. You can pay online. Their understanding is that even a touch screen phone of Rs 4000 seems expensive and demands a discount of Rs 2000 from the shopkeeper. Oliver tries to get close to his sons and the boys scold him because their father doesn’t seem cool to them. Indrans, who plays the role of Oliver, is known for his comedy roles in Malayalam films, but in this film he surprises everyone with his portrayal of an old, helpless and recognition-hungry father. This character will immortalize him.

Oliver’s elder son Anthony is a film director. He is very impressed by his future father-in-law. He is always doing something for them, taking advice from them in everything. His autobiography was published on his father-in-law’s 50th birthday. Anthony scolds his father that his autobiography may not be more than half a page long. On the day of the book’s release, everyone gathers and Anthony’s father-in-law asks his mother to speak two words. On the cover of the book, his mother tells the story of the photo and many other big mysteries are revealed. Oliver Twist, who lives an unknown and unimportant life, undergoes such a transformation that he forgets all the sorrows of his life and becomes happy from within.

Oliver’s younger son Charles seems to be the perfect representative of today’s generation. He forced his elderly mother, who lived on the ground floor, to climb the stairs so that he could turn off the fan in her room. Seeing the father washing the elder son’s car, he also gives his scooty to him to wash secretly. He makes YouTube videos every day claiming the vegetable garden planted by his father on the roof of the house as his own. In front of the guests, he behaves a little more absurdly than his mother and then makes jokes.

The film was produced by Malayalam actor Vijay Babu, who couldn’t resist the lure of appearing on screen, and played psychologist Dr. Franklin in a small but very funny role in the film. Anup Menon played a great role with him in the role of Superstar Vishal. The hero of the film is Srinath Vasi who plays the role of Antony but the film runs on the strong shoulders of Indran. Oliver Twist’s wife Kuttiamma is brought to life by Manju Pillai. Deepa Thomas also does a good job as Antony’s girlfriend Priya. Charles is played by Naslen, who was also recently seen in “Kuruthi”.
Rosine Thomas works with her team. Be it music director Rahul Subramanian or cinematographer Neil Dakunha or editor Prejesh Prakash. Good tuning among themselves leads to good work. Rahul has given new heights to the heart of the scene by creating a European feel in the background of the film. Songs are also good but not much popular due to release on OTT.

    # Home is a great presentation. Like many features of any smart phone. With each app you get something new. With every app comes a new feature. Every scene in the #home also evokes a new feeling. Suppressed feelings towards parents come to the fore again. You must not have seen a movie as beautiful as #Home in a long time. Break the language barrier.
