Hemant M Rao should be held responsible. Hemanth is the director of the Kannada film. At their behest, director Sriram Raghavan watched the French film “Le Chorder” i.e. The Piano Tuner, based on the story of a blind piano player. From here he got the idea of making a suspense thriller film about a murder, a crime, the life of a blind pianist and the birth of ‘Andhadhun’. He also did some art. Andhadhun made a film mixing Andha and Dhun. First the critics loved it, then the audience and then there was a competition in which language to remake it, use it. Its Malayalam version was released on 7 September 2021 on Amazon Prime Video.
Remaking is as easy as it is difficult. Easy because the film script is completely ready. Apart from this, the shooting script is also ready. The acting criteria is also fixed, that is, the picture has to be made as it is. It is difficult because the original film is successful. Many have seen it and will naturally make comparisons. There is also a risk that if something is missed, or if there is an act of changing the atmosphere of the story, the audience may reject it outright. ‘Illusion’ doesn’t seem to be making any such mistakes. The film is placed frame by frame as it is. What is special about this is that this film still looks fresh because its lead actors Prithviraj, Rashi Khanna or Mamata Mohandas are famous artists in their own right.
Her performance shows her own identity and so despite being a remake, this film is a joy to watch. Hemantha Rao, Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas (Writer and Director of Bengali films), Yogesh Chandekar have kept the story of Andhadhun with great suspense. Sriram Raghavan’s magic wand is in the hands of writer and editor Pooja Laddha Surti. Pooja has written or edited every Sri Ram movie. Pooja’s writing excellence is evident in every scene of Andhadhun. Vram did not make the mistake of changing at all.
Prithviraj Sukumaran has acted in around 125 films, won National Awards and is considered one of the most successful actors in Malayalam cinema. Prithviraj, who has a simple, easy-going, gentle personality, excels in the role of the clever pianist in Bhraam. In many scenes, he looked better than Ayushmann Khurrana. Prithviraj’s performance is top notch. Rashi Khanna plays the role of his girlfriend. Rashi of Delhi wanted to do IAS. While working in an advertising agency, he worked in some commercial films and then gradually came to the big screen. Rashi is not only beautiful but also successful and has done a good job in this film. Radhika Apte’s role in Andhadhun was good but she plays the same in every role. In this case, money is won.
The other two lead roles are Unni Mukundan as Circle Inspector Dinesh Prabhakaran and his lover Mamata Mohandas, who plays Tabu. Although Mamata is a competent and talented actress, she could not even reach the role that Tabu played in the Hindi version. Other actors are also seen playing their roles well. One of the strongest aspects of the film is its music. Jack Vijay has created panic in the music world of Malayalam movies. Over the years, every successful and off-beat movie has had Jack’s music. Muntiripuvo song is well composed.
In most suspense films, many stories run together but are separate from any one main story. Bhram or Andhadhun is characterized by an original story and several minor sub-stories which all seem to be offshoots of the main story. The cinematographer of the film is Ravi K. The director of the film is Chandran. This is his second film directed by him. Ravi won many awards for cinematography. Dil Chahta Hai, Yuvaa, Student Of The Year, Virasat, Sawariya are many other films in which Ravi’s camera work has worked its magic. The editor of the film is his friend, Sreekar Prasad, who has edited more than 100 films so far, from National Award to Kerala State Film Award winner Sreekar keeping pace with this film.
Maya must see. It has been 3 years since the release of Andhadhun. A French film remake is being made based on this story. The film was released in Telugu as Maestro. The language of illusion is Malayalam. The Tamil remake is also coming soon. It seems this movie should be released dubbed in every language.
