Mumbai. Veteran Bollywood lyricist, poet and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has been seen embroiled in controversy. In a recent interview with NDTV, he compared the Taliban to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In the interview, Akhtar said there was no difference between the goals of the RSS, the VHP and organizations like the Bajrang Dal and the Taliban. The BJP has strongly opposed his statement. BJP activists arrived at Javed Akhtar’s house in Mumbai’s Juhu on Saturday to protest with placards in hand. In view of the protests, the police arranged strict security outside his house.
The lyricist Akhtar said that there is a right wing in the whole world. “It’s a complete exercise to become a Taliban,” he said of the country’s minority violence. These people are doing the same thing. They are the same people, the only difference between the two is the name. The Indian Constitution stands in their way, but they will also cross the constitutional boundary if given the opportunity. Akhtar has criticized a section of Muslims who are happy for the Taliban to take power.
‘Both have the same mentality’
Javed Akhtar advised organizations like RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal to introspect. He said, ‘The Taliban are barbaric, but what is the difference between the Taliban and who you are supporting? Their ground is getting stronger and they are moving towards their goal. Both have the same mentality.
‘All the right-wingers in the world are the same’
Calling all right-wingers in the world equal, Akhtar said, “Whether it is Christian right-wing, Muslim right-wing or Hindu right-wing, there is equality among all.” The Taliban wants to create an Islamic state. They want a Hindu state. They said those whose tradition is different will not accept them. These people want boys and girls not to go to the park together. The difference between the two is that they are not yet as strong as the Taliban, but whatever the Taliban, they have the same motives.
