T20 World Cup: Team selected for T20 World Cup without coach’s advice, leading to Misbah’s resignation

Karachi. Misbah-ul-Haq has resigned as the head coach of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad due to disagreements over the selection and a break from the home series against New Zealand. A source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) claimed this. The source claimed that Misbah, who arrived in Lahore on Sunday after a 10-day quarantine in the West Indies, went to meet Pakistan Cricket Board chief executive Wasim Khan and was surprised that the team was selected for the upcoming home series and T20 World Cup without his advice.

“Misbah suffered another blow when Wasim told him he would have to take a break from the New Zealand series, which the former captain flatly refused,” the source said. “Misbah-ul-Haq has made it clear that he does not need a rest and considers the home series against New Zealand and England very important in preparation for the World Cup,” he said. But then he was told that the authorities had instructed the higher authorities to rest him from the series against New Zealand.

Objection to the election of Azam Khan

According to sources, Misbah had objections to selecting at least two players in the team, especially Azam Khan. He made it clear to Wasim Khan that he could not be in the World Cup squad. “When Misbah and the PCB CEO failed to reach an agreement, Misbah made it clear that it was better to step down as head coach.”

The board gave another reason for the resignation

The selection of Azam Khan as the reserve wicketkeeper and batsman in the T20 squad to replace former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed came as a shock to many in the Pakistan cricket world. Azam, the eldest son of former Pakistan captain Mann Khan, made his debut for Pakistan in England. Earlier, the PCB had said that head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Yunus had resigned from their respective posts due to long separation from family due to bio-bubble.
