IND vs ENG: K.C. Rahul was given ‘big’ punishment by ICC, there was controversy after he was dismissed

New Delhi. The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday fined Indian opener KL Rahul 15 per cent of his match fee for protesting against the umpire’s decision. The incident happened in the 34th over of the Indian innings on Saturday. At that time Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul added 3 runs for the first wicket. This partnership seemed strong. It was then broken by James Anderson. Rahul was caught behind the wicket by Johnny Bairstore, though the umpire kept him unbeaten. England took the review and the third umpire dismissed the Indian opener. There was controversy over this decision.

When, after DRS review, he was bowled out by James Anderson. KL Rahul was dissatisfied with the decision of the third umpire. According to the ICC statement, Rahul has violated Level-1 of the Code of Conduct.

Gavaskar also expressed dissatisfaction with the decision.
Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar was also seen getting angry before the third umpire’s decision. He was commenting then. When England captain Joe Root took the DRS, the third umpire took the help of a sneiko meter so that the ball with the bat did not hit the wicketkeeper’s gloves. As the ball moved closer to Rahul’s bat, there was some movement on the sneeco meter. The third umpire then declared him out immediately.

“Rahul has been found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Staff, which contradicts the umpire’s decision in an international match,” the ICC statement said. Apart from this, a demerit point has also been added to Rahul’s punitive record, which is the first violation in the last two months.

KL Rahul has admitted his mistake
Admitting his mistake, Rahul accepted the penalty proposed by match referee Chris Broad. Therefore, there was no need for an official hearing on the matter. Field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, third umpire Michael Goff and fourth umpire Mike Burns formed charges against KL Rahul.

Level-2 violations result in a minimum penalty of official reprimand and a maximum of 50 percent of the player’s remuneration and one or two demerit points.
