The Manchester Test was not canceled due to the IPL, the ECB chief clarified after the controversy

New Delhi. The 5th and final Test (IND vs ENG 5th Test) of the series between India and England at Old Trafford in Manchester was canceled on this occasion. Controversy also erupted when some reports claimed that the reason behind the cancellation was the second round of the IPL (IPL 2021). The second leg of the 14th edition of the IPL will be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 19. Now England-Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chief Tom Harrison has explained the controversy. He said the IPL had nothing to do with the cancellation of the Manchester Test.

During the fourth Test of the series, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri tested positive for corona. Later, other members of the support staff also fell victim to the virus. Even before the Manchester Test, the corona test report of Team India’s physiotherapist came back positive. In such a situation, the last Test match of the series had to be canceled. Then in a report, the ECB was quoted as saying that India would not be able to field its team for this match, but now Tom Harrison has blown away all those reports.

Meanwhile, some reports have said that India is keen to extend the date of the final Test. However, the ECB chief dismissed reports that the cancellation of the test had nothing to do with the IPL. He told BBC Sport, “This match has not been canceled due to the second phase of IPL-2021. This Indian cricket team is as passionate about Test cricket as our fans are in our country and so is our cricket team. People just felt that Indian players could not get on the field because of Corona’s growing case, which is understandable.

Tom Harrison added: “It should be noted that the BCCI and the ECB are working together to find a suitable window for rescheduling the Manchester Test match. It should also be noted that everything will be done keeping in mind the mental health of the players, which is the main issue at the moment. The duration of the tour in particular can affect the players as well and that is why the management has decided not to rush into the discussion.
