T20 World Cup: Former veteran says R-Ashwin deserves to play 11, has proved himself in every situation

New Delhi. Former Great Cricketer Ian Chappell thinks the Indian selectors should give priority to changing the middle order of the team to include the experienced XI and Ashwin. The former Australian captain said the experienced off-spin all-rounder has proved himself to be a good bowler in all conditions and deserves a place in the team. Ashwin has got a place in Team India for the T20 World Cup. He managed to get a place in the team after 4 years.

Ian Chappell wrote in his column on Cricinfo, ‘And Ashwin is the best combination in India. He is a good bowler in all conditions. As he proved in Australia, India should find a way to give him a place in the playing XI. “The selectors should change the middle order to give place to Ashwin,” he said. Ian Chappell said the Indian team has a lot of depth, which makes them a strong team. He said the idea that they could still improve was frightening.

Team India is unbeaten at home

“There is no doubt that India is a very good all-round team,” he said. He proved it by winning two consecutive series in Australia and now England under the influence of Covid. Outside of that, he looks unbeatable at home. “It’s a scary thought for another Test team that Virat Kohli’s massively successful team could improve,” said Ian Chappell.

It is better to send Rabindra Jadeja to number 5

The Indian team management prefers left-arm spinner all-rounder Rabindra Jadeja over Ashwin in the Test match against England. Ian Chappell said that the presence of Rabindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Hardik Pandya and Habshav Panth makes the lower middle order very strong. “In an attempt to find the right balance between right and left in the middle order at the Oval, they may have inadvertently found a solution – feeding Rabindra Jadeja at number five,” he said.

The option is also available in the form of Shardul Tagore

The former captain said, “If Jadeja proves himself fit for the position, he will only need a fast bowling all-rounder. The ideal player would be a perfectly fit Hardik Pandya, but he has another option in the form of Shardul Tagore. “In the presence of Jadeja, Habshav Pant, Pandya and Ashwin, the middle order should run as expected,” he said.

“After that, three fast bowlers will come,” said Ian Chappell. There will then be a variety of attacks to support the batting. This is the advantage of a strong and balanced attack – you don’t need a big score to win.
