Calcutta. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will file her nomination from Bhabanipur assembly constituency today. By-election (West Bengal by-election) is scheduled to be held here on September 0. Everyone’s eyes are fixed on this seat in the political arena. Mamata has to win from here at any cost to stay in the Chief Minister’s chair. He lost to BJP’s Shuvendu Adhikari in Nandigram constituency during this year’s assembly elections. Banerjee will have to become a member of the state assembly by November 5.
Senior party leader Shobhandev Chattopadhyay has resigned as Trinamool Congress MLA from Bhabanipur. So that the way is clear for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to become a member of the state assembly by contesting the by-elections. Chattopadhyay defeated BJP candidate and actor Rudranil Ghosh in this seat by nearly 28,000 votes. Banerjee has won the Bhabanipur seat twice since 2011.

Who is against Mamata?
The BJP may field Priyanka Tibrewal against Mamata Banerjee. According to media reports, Tibrawal was also a legal adviser to BJP leader Babul Supriyo. Priyanka Tibrewal joined the BJP in 2011 on the instructions of Babul Supriyo. The Left Front has fielded CPM’s Sreejib Biswas from Bhabanipur constituency. Shovan Dev Chattopadhyay, who was the MLA of Bhabanipur, will now contest from Kharadaha assembly seat.
Congress has left the field
A day after promising to field a candidate against Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur by-election, the Congress said in a U-turn that the party would not stand against the Trinamool Congress supremo. State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that as per the AICC directives, the Congress would not campaign against or against any candidate before the September 30 by-elections.
