Dr Bal Balaram Varghese, director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), said most of the deaths were due to dengue fever (D2 strain) in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh. “We have been diagnosed with dengue after testing a fever sample in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh,” he told a media briefing at the health and welfare ministry on Thursday.
Dr B Varghese said deaths in Firozabad and Mathura in UP and even in Agra were evident due to dengue. He said that in samples taken by ICMR from these districts, D2 strain was found, which could cause bleeding and prove fatal. This time, Vargab advised the people of Uttar Pradesh to be careful about mosquitoes. He said the people of the state should refrain from allowing water to accumulate for a long time in places like mosquito breeding grounds. Let us inform that in the past, a team of 11 members of ICMR reached Firozabad and collected samples.
How Dangerous is the Dengue D-2 Strain?
