The young man said he had lost hope of getting justice from the government and wanted to expose Punjab’s political parties through the protests. In fact, in 2015, Sikh protesters were protesting in Faridkot in protest of their religion, when police opened fire on them. At that time there was a coalition government of Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP in the state.

    Sources close to Sidhu said that in the wake of the recent religious crisis, he had told his supporters that the government needed to work on the issue as it could win the confidence of the majority voters in the state. A leader associated with Sidhu said that all the incidents related to religion were important because of which the Congress came to power and now the idea is getting stronger that the government is not strict against those culprits, so such incidents will continue to happen in future also. And the political consequences will come out.

    Political experts say the recent religious upheaval has not only given Sidhu a chance to put pressure on the Charanjit Singh Channi government but also to attack his political rival, the Shiromani Akali Dal. One leader said the Akali Dal was under pressure for religion and shootings, and despite condemnation of recent events, many were unwilling to believe that it would benefit them politically.

    The Charanjit Singh Channi government in Punjab has ordered a SIT probe into the incidents, citing sensitive incidents related to religion and related political consequences. The Congress leader said that Navjot Singh Sidhu was constantly raising these issues and that was why the recent religious incidents had brought him back to the limelight and the state government was under pressure. Earlier, Navjot Singh Sidhu had demanded execution of convicts in a case related to religion.
