    Kerala Central University teachers suspended for not giving anti-national speeches, one suspended

    Thiruvananthapuram. Learning from previous incidents, the Central University of Kerala has asked its faculty and staff to refrain from giving any provocative speeches or discourses that are anti-national and anti-national. In a notification issued by Registrar Rajendra Pilankattar, the university has warned of stern disciplinary action against participants in such activities.

    According to university sources, Gilbert Sebastian, an assistant professor in the Department of International Relations and Politics, has been suspended in a circular issued on September 2. While teaching ‘Fascism and Nazism’ to first-year MA students on April 1, Assistant Professor Gilbert complained that the Sangh had called the family organization and the Modi government fascists. He criticized the central government’s decision to export the corona vaccine, calling it patriotic.

    The university later formed an inquiry committee and sought an explanation. Gilbert was later suspended. Then, on June 10, the suspension was revoked after he offered to give an explanation.

    Gilbert’s remarks at a meeting of the university’s executive council on June 2 were described as anti-national. Council members welcomed the Vice-Chancellor Prof. H Venkateshwarlu will issue a notice asking the faculty and staff to refrain from making anti-national speeches or lectures. On September 2, according to the same instructions, a circular was issued in this regard.

    Sources said Gilbert later wrote a letter to the vice-chancellor against the council’s report. The report stated that Gilbert had written a letter of apology, withdrawing the statement he had made in class and promising not to repeat it in the future.

    In his letter to the VC, Gilbert wrote that the report on the revocation of his stay was false and unacceptable to him. In the letter, he wrote, ‘What I said in the letter was clearly an unacceptable apology because my opinion in class was misunderstood by others. What I took back was a casual comment. The EC’s comment that my statement in the class was anti-national is inappropriate and two-tiered because it is a baseless allegation.
