New Delhi: On New Year’s Eve, Delhi Police fined more than 600 people for violations such as drunken and dangerous driving, officials said on Saturday. Police said 36 shipments were issued for drunk driving, 103 for dangerous driving, 370 for driving without a helmet, 48 for triple riding and 100 for other offenses. The total number of invoices issued is 656, they said.
Last year, police issued 1,336 invoices, more than double this year. The numbers are lower mainly because there is a night curfew in the national capital in the wake of the growing Kovid case. Adequate security measures were put in place ahead of the New Year to enforce the guidelines issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority in view of the spread of COVID-19 here, police said.
