Mumbai. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Monday officially announced India’s withdrawal from the Women’s Asian Cup. The AFC also said that after the Indian team withdrew from the match against Chinese Taipei due to several cases of corona infection, all its matches would be considered canceled. The Indian team was not in a position to field the entire team against Chinese Taipei as 12 of its players were infected with corona.
Asian Football Confederation In a statement issued a day later, it was confirmed that as per the guidelines, India would be considered to have withdrawn from the tournament. “Following the cancellation of the match between Chinese Taipei and India in Group A of the Women’s Asian Cup 2022, India will be deemed to have withdrawn from the tournament in accordance with Article 4.1 of the Special Rules applicable to AFC competition in the Corona Epidemic,” the AFC said.

It said, “All matches in India will now be considered canceled.” It added that India’s only match against Iran would no longer be counted as the group’s final table was prepared. India was in the group along with China, Chinese Taipei and Iran. Now only three teams will be considered in this group.
“Group B and C first, second and third place matches will not be counted against the fourth place team to avoid the possibility of any bias in the final comparison between all the third place teams.” The statement said.
