New Delhi. The Indian cricket team defeated the visiting West Indies by 6 wickets in their 1000th ODI. As a result, Team India went ahead 1-0 in the 3 match series. This is Team India’s first win this year.
For the first time, full-time captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Kieron Pollard-led Windies to bat first. The Windies could not play the full 50 overs and returned to the pavilion with 16 runs. Jason Holder scored the highest 56 runs for him.
By winning this match, Team India has made its 1000th ODI memorable. In the first ODI to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, all-rounder Deepak Hooda got his chance to make his debut when Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad Kovid were positive and Ishan Kishan was fielded in the opening over. Let’s know the 5 reasons why Team India won: –
Rohit Sharma’s half century comeback
In world cricket, the famous pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan (26), popularly known as ‘Hitman’, gave India a good start by adding 64 runs for the first wicket. Rohit made 60 off 51 balls, including 10 fours and a six. Rohit could not tour South Africa due to hamstring injury. In such a situation, he has returned with a half century.
Yuzbendra Chahal’s ‘Chowka’
Leg-spinner Yuzbendra Chahal was instrumental in India’s historic ODI win. Chahal took 4 wickets for 49 runs in 9.5 overs. He took 2 wickets in the same over and gave a big push to Windies. During this time Chahal also completed his 100 wickets in ODI cricket. He led the way in the pavilion of explosive batsmen like West Indies captain Kieran Pollard and Nicholas Puran.
Sundar took 2 wickets in one over
Great return to all-rounder Washington Sundar. Covid was out of the beautiful team due to being positive, he has returned to the team through this series. Maiden took 3 wickets for 30 runs in 9 overs. Sundar also took 2 wickets in one over. He is followed by openers Brendon King and Darren Bravo, Fabian Allen, the most dangerous batsman in the Windies.
Suryakumar-Deepak Hooda unbeaten half century pair
Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Huda took the helm of the innings in the middle order after the cheap outs of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. Both of them gave an easy victory to Team India by averaging an unbeaten 72 runs for the 5th wicket. Suryakumar hit an unbeaten 34 off 36 balls, while debutant Deepak Hooda remained unbeaten on 26.
The magic of spinners played in the middle order
For some time now, Indian bowlers have had a problem of not getting wickets in the middle order. But in the first ODI against the Windies, the spin pairing of Chahal and Sundar did not allow the Windies to reach the big score by bowling brilliantly. Both these spinners took wickets at regular intervals, due to which the visiting team could not score even 200 runs.
The second ODI of the series will be played on February 9 in Ahmedabad. India have played 2 Tests and 3 ODIs in South Africa this year and lost all of them. This is Team India’s first win in 2022.
